January 2014

Soul Sellers

Welcome to the first Monday of 2014! The day in which NYRs really start. The day where we “really” start putting our best foot forward. The day in which I sell my soul. Yep, welcome to pseudo-management. But work, who wants to talk about that? Not me.

Up at 5 this morning, per the plan. First day of P90X3 went pretty well. To only be a half hour, I was surprised to have still broken a sweat. I don’t know what I was expecting. I mean, it is still a P90X product. Not as holy hell difficult as the first one, but hopefully I’ll still see results out of it. Followed that up with a little stretching for splits. I keep saying that I want to get these damned splits, but then I keep not stretching. 1 plus 1 does not equal splits here. But if I can stick with this plan for a while (and I should be able to), perhaps in a few months, I’ll be closer to getting there than I am now.

Right split Left split

There’s the starting point. Pretty much the same place it’s been forever. *sigh* Time to get flat. (but not ass and titties…ass and titties).

The morning routine will be deemed a success. 5am isn’t so much worse than 5:30, especially when my body says “hey, wake up!” anyway. More years, less sleep. The fun never ends.

Fun week ahead! The morning routine continues, Zumba on Tuesday and Thursday, FabPole on Wednesday. Snowboarding on Saturday. Good times.

Well, the time is rapidly approaching for me to go shake hands and sign for my soul on the dotted line. I can do this. I can do anything! Have a great day.

Under The Wire

Ohhhhh, it’s 9pm and I’m just now getting to today’s post. But making it, that’s the positive. Let’s keep it positive.

Since Lovey reminded me that I had money left on my gift card, I went out and bought a sandwich maker. You know, those ones where you put in an English muffin or a bagel, then some meat and/or veggies, cheese, an egg, and the bread top and it makes you like an Egg McMuffin in 5 minutes. I am so excited to have my salmon and egg white on muffin tomorrow!

I didn’t think that I was pushing my body very hard yesterday when I went to FabPole. However, today my body says differently. So many fun bumps and owwies. I’m sure that will make P90X feel absolutely wonderful tomorrow. Hopefully the stretch afterwards will make it better.

Again, I’m not going to make myself feel bad if I don’t put down 750 words in each post. I’m just getting started.

Football and Margaritas

Sounds a lot more interesting that it is, I swear. I’m watching football and drinking a margarita. They’re killer. *sips margarita*

Today, I went on over to the FabPole workshop. It was pretty sweet. And on my “get good at something this year” bullet point on my list, this seems like a good choice. Probably equally as good as dance trap, but a little, I don’t know, edgier? At any rate, it lets be be dance-y and pole-y and fabric-y and happ-y. Makes it a good enough choice for me.

OMG, I am finding it very difficult to focus on writing today. I guess I should expect this to happen, but as long as I get some words on “paper”, I’m still doing something. Today’s writing prompt is kind of a bust for me as it deals with favorite quotes. I guess if at any time I’ve had a favorite quote, it was some years back and it was “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread”. Why? I don’t know. It certainly isn’t something that applies to me or the way I run my life since I’ve been known to just go balls to the wall. Probably I just thought it sounded cool. I’ve been a bit of a strange one from day one, or so I’m told.

I’m not gonna force this. I have margarita mind. See you tomorrow.

ROCO Friday – The Reverend Considers A Return

Hi. First, let me explain that title. Or better yet, use the search functionality to look for ROCO. If you aren’t going to, I’ll give you a brief explanation, but you’ll better get the gist if you look. ROCO (rock out with your cock out) Fridays are days in which, well, you’re just supposed to ROCO. They usually include music and an inspirational message. Our good Reverend MiamiShyner has been on quite the hiatus, but perhaps she’ll make some sort of grand return here in 2014.

Let the congregation say, ROCO!

While we await the Reverend’s return, let’s consider another topic: today’s writing prompt. It is a tough one today, asking what is number 11 on my bucket list. Well, since I’ve never created a bucket list, it’s pretty difficult to answer this one. I’ve been fortunate enough to have led a fairly interesting life, so what would I even put on a bucket list? I suppose I could put some places I want to visit, like this, but I don’t really know what else I would put on there. Maybe I should make a late NYR to create a bucket list. Ha! So does this make me a boring person because I don’t have a list of “one day”, only a list of “been there, done that”? Doubtful. Oh wait! I just remembered something else I want to do! I wouldn’t actually put it on a bucket list, but it is something I want to do and I’m going to take care of it in 2015. Lots and lots of ski/snowboard resorts offer camps that are usually a couple of days and are for women only. I’m going to do that next year. Probably at Winter Park. Maybe if I’m fortunate I’ll sneak one in over at Park City as well. I need to start saving immediately.

Speaking of saving, perhaps/probably you’ve seen that little savings plan floating around Facebook or the internet wherein you throw an amount in a jar (or your bank if you want to be more traditional) once a week that corresponds with the week of the year. At the end of the year, if you’ve stayed true to the savings, you should have nearly $1400. The 52 week savings challenge it’s called. It’s like paying income tax to yourself! One dollar and some Whiskey In A Jar for this week. Play along and buy yourself something nice at the end.

I have no segue back into professional related stuff. But I’ll be setting aside some time this weekend, between grocery shopping, possible snowboarding, and a FabPole workshop, to start looking into my SharePoint training and to start revisiting my old enemy, PHP. Many, many moons ago, I started learning PHP but it went along the wayside with learning HTML, CSS, and the like (man, am I stupid). But now, I think my brain is ready for it. Even though there’s a lot of junk up there, I know there’s space for more. Hello, smart me. I remember you. You used to hang out a lot. Then you quit using your brain. Welcome back.

I’ve not forgotten my Zero To Hero commitment. There just wasn’t really anything to actually blog about today, just an assignment on pretty-ing up the place. I did it. Did you notice? (if you’ve been here before, that is) Only way to tell me is in the comments. Ready, set, go!

Challenges and Blathering, aka Who Am I and Why Am I Here?

Hey there! Two days in and I’m still sticking with it!

Along with having these writing prompts for a year, Daily Post is also doing something they’re calling Zero to Hero: 30 Days to a Better Blog. I’m going to attempt to do this for January whilst still adding in the writing prompts and anything else that I might want to recall in the future. Nothing like piling it on, huh?

As you may have gathered from the title of the post, the challenge part of today is to do an introduction of yourself. I know that the three of you that actually read this already know me, but I should introduce myself to the masses of readers that I’m hoping to cultivate. The DP (ha!) provided some questions to answer, so I will answer those, but you should just know that I’m an off-the-cuff kinda chick with a super dry and sarcastic sense of humor. A lot of folks think I’m, well, not very nice, but those are the folks for whom my sense of humor goes right over their heads. I’m ok with that. I need smart humor in my life. Now on to those questions…

· Why are you blogging, rather than keeping a personal journal? – Well, it’s 2014. This *IS* my personal journal. It’s just that I’m sharing it with you all. I try to stay true to myself and therefore true to you. If I put it out there, I know it can come back at me, so like Popeye says, “I yams what I yams”, or something like that.

· What topics do you think you’ll write about? – What topics *won’t* I write about?!?! I’m really a stream of consciousness kind of writer, so I write about whatever I’m thinking about mainly. However, you’re likely to find me chatting about circus stuff, pole dancing, working out in general, music, books, and trying to make my work life a little better. Throw in some occasional jokes and silliness and you’ve gotten in my head.

· Who would you love to connect with via your blog? – Easy peasy. Any and everyone that finds what I write helpful or amusing. Someone who wants me to write for them professionally in my non-professional manner. Authors with tips on how to start/finish a book and then get it published. Aerialists with new moves. Readers with good books. You get the picture.

· If you blog successfully throughout 2014, what would you hope to have accomplished? – I’m a simple girl. I just want to get back into the habit of writing on a frequent basis. Perhaps daily writing will push out a daily short story that I could put in an anthology. Who knows? Aim high, right?

So there you go. That’s my “intro”. If you are truly new to the blog, please feel free to browse through and see what I’m about. It’s a lot of silliness.  If you’re not new, hi there. Thanks for stopping by again.

Before I go running off to do whatever it I do all day, let me touch on today’s writing prompt, as if I haven’t written enough for one day. Today’s topic is:  Have you ever made a New Year’s Resolution that you kept? Without searching through my blog archives, I would really have to say no on this. I know that I’ve wanted to do things like get a massage once a month (that lasted for 2 months), get better with my Spanish (that’s just sheer laziness not doing that one), and work out more. While I am fairly consistent with my working out, I probably am not consistent enough to consider it accomplishing a NYR. All in all, when I look back at this post in a year, I want to be able to say, “hey, I did pretty good this year!” Wish me luck as I wish you the same in your blogging/writing/achieving endeavors!
