Fresh For Monday

THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

These are the things we must remember when it’s Monday and we just want to stay in bed for a little bit longer…or the whole day. When we don’t want to go to work, but bills don’t stop coming in. When we just don’t want to…the show must go on.

I’m not even sure how this happened, but it is already almost the end of 2015. I’m not ready! Summer just snuck by without me getting out to the range to smack some golf balls around. (Although we did get one of these to start doing more winter swing work in the basement.) And now, before anyone even knew it, it’s time to start waxing boards and looking for thermals.

How can I jump ahead like this? Well, it isn’t hard with Park City, Keystone, and Breckenridge all talking about getting ready to make snow and get the mountain ready for our impending visit(s). The weather is finally starting to turn and it’s in the 60s – it’s been way above normal until now – and it smells like fall outside. Plus, Halloween is right around the corner, which means Thanksgiving isn’t far behind. And if Thanksgiving isn’t far behind, you know that retailers will start putting up Christmas stuff in another couple of weeks. Yikes.

The end of summer/beginning of winter (see how I skip right over fall?) also brings about my birthday. In seven weeks and two days, I will have spent a whopping 42 years on this big ole ball of dirt. While I don’t currently have plans for the big day, especially since it’s in the middle of the week, I decided yesterday that I would take the next eight weeks and see what I could do with my body in terms of strength and flexibility in that time period.

I’m not totally off the deep end. Since I already have a base level of strength and flexibility, it shouldn’t be too terrible what I’m about to do. I just need to get it done and get it done right. First up is to start treating my body better from the inside out. I have been horribly neglecting my water intake and my body is hating me for it. You know I’m not totally right upstairs and I would know I’m not drinking enough water and want to see how far I could go. Yeah, I’m a nut. But I know better and am promising myself, at the very least, these next eight weeks of proper hydration. So hopefully no little nagging headaches along the way.

Just water won’t do it though. I need food. And lots of it. Back to having snacks and properly fueling myself so I don’t crash and burn when trying to work out. Snacks and protein shakes, welcome back into my life! Fortunately, sleep has always been a part of my life. And I find it to be very important so no changes there. Exercise, however, is getting a facelift.

After 7 weeks of Cize with Shaun T, I’m moving to something that basically targets the lower body since I’ll be needing a lot of that for the upcoming snowboarding season. So, like a lunatic, I put together a little morning regiment. I’ll start off with whichever day it is for the T25/PiYo hybrid calendar – today it was sculpt, which wasn’t as horrific as the first time I tried it. Follow that up with some gymnastics foundations work, then some stretching. By this time, I usually have to head upstairs for a bathroom break. This morning, getting back down the stairs was almost an incident. Legs tried to give out on me a little bit. But, Bambi legs and all, I made it back downstairs to finish up the morning work of an aerial yoga flow. That’s what I’ve got. 6 days a week for the next 8 weeks. 1 down, 47 to go. Will I stick with it? Only time will tell. All I can say is that I will try.

And with that, boys and girls, I think I shall call this a post. May the week ahead be filled with fun and happiness, and if not, at least may it not be filled with stress and hardships. Until the next post, I’m outta here!

Ha! Hoo Ha!

Ah yes, the kung fu. This song was number one on the charts somehow when I turned 21. I am NOT that old.

So, hey, September already. Summer is pretty much gone and snowboarding is right around the corner. Someone wanna explain where all that time went? Please?!?!

With August came a new job. First month down and it’s been interesting to say the least. First time working in a true startup. I have so many ideas but I really have to try to dole them out a little at a time. I can be overwhelming. 😀

Now I’m mostly into the swing of things and I’m taking multi-tasking to a whole new level. It’s kinda crazy but fun. And keeping on that multi-tasking idea, I’ve gotten back on my yoga mat. I’ve been pretty disconnected but I’m working my way back. I’m spending this month focusing on the sacral chakra, where creativity and emotions lie. I’m hoping that opening that bad boy up will help with my writing processes along with some other issues that need to be addressed. I’m ready. After doing nothing all of August thanks to injury, it’s time. Cardio with Shaun T every day, yoga every day, handstands every day, or at least attempts at them. Hopefully I’ll come away with something that makes it all click a little better on Saturday’s handstand workshop.

While it’s only September, and the beginning of it at that, can I tell you that I’m getting excited for Christmas? I know, I know. It’s way too early to even be thinking about Christmas and usually, I wouldn’t be. However, since we moved, I now have an absolute shit-ton of space which means I can put up both the tree AND the village this year. Bradford Exchange is not helping my problems by showing me stuff like this:

In case you didn’t know, I just love me some collectibles. And if your decision is to hate on the Steelers, that’s your business, please just move it along. I won’t be using this space to defend myself or whom I support. Anywho, it’s a big Christmas year this year! I still don’t want to deal with presents (and we mostly don’t), but I’mma decorate the shit outta this house.

Other notes of interest, to me at least, include that I should have some more fun photos at the beginning of next month. I swear that one day, I will get better at being in front of the camera. I need to learn to relax out there (I should probably just have a beer first) and try to enjoy myself…and stop looking at the photographer. Photogs around the world likely just can’t stand working with people like me, lol. Totally uncomfortable, face-making, no pose having, only look good when I’m guffawing with a totally open mouth people. That’s me.

You’d think that I’d have more to talk about, but no. So with that, I wish you a great day. It’s hump day after all, Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike. Peace!

We’re Even Now Stop

We had a great day at Keystone today. The drive up was a little slow and icy in one spot, and the drive back was a total cakewalk.

I got to work on jumps (those should have air quotes) and even caught some air today. Granted,  it was only like a foot,  but it FELT like I was up there and up there forever. I’d show you but we had a camera malfunction.  Next time we go up it’ll be for a couple days so there will be proof.

I felt pretty good until we got home and I tried to get out of the car. It was at that point that my legs decided to flip me off. I mean, it makes total sense to do legs and back on Friday morning then ride for 3 hours on Saturday and think I won’t be in pain, right?  Riiiiiight.

Oh, right. Pain. And the title. Today, I once again ate shit on the mountain. This fall took me a little bit longer to get up from. At least I didn’t hit my head this time, but I fell on my shoulder. Again. And my arm went to sleep. Again. So now that’s twice on the left and twice on the right that my arm has gone to sleep. No more. I hope.

Off to watch boxing. Have a nice night. 🙂

Mistakes Get Made

Oh, Monday, how you sneak up on a girl. Jerk.

While snowboarding on Sunday could quite possibly be “the thing”, it also is a bit of a bummer because we got back home yesterday and I immediately realized that the weekend was over. Tears may or may not have been shed. But of course, Monday brings good with it and not just work.

Good, but a conflicted good. You see, today I have a spin pole workshop with some ladies I used to dance/train with until I walked away a while back. Why did I walk away? Ask the chorus up there. Not all of it, just never shined through in what I’ve shown. I really feel like that sentence sums up my previous attempts at dancing. I have stories to tell and it’s as though I have writer’s block of the body. I am really and truly hoping that the time away has been helpful. I know I’ve lost a lot of pole muscle, but I can get that back. I think that the time away has freed me up a little from the constraints I placed upon myself. Ah, the pole world – you labeled me, I’ll label you. And we’re all unforgiven whether it be by ourselves or those we used to call or still call friends.

Between just wanting to be able to move today and trying to early morning prep for this evening’s workshop, I spent quite a bit of time stretching this morning. First the warmup from Dynamix to wake up the body, then a shoulder opening sequence, followed by the requisite split stretching (down to the yoga block having to be pushed to get under the space left on the good side), and ending with a little lacrosse ball to the glutes and hip flexors. After showering, it’s a quick big marble to the neck and shoulder where it’s sore with the anti-inflammatory cream and I’m ready to go to work! Yes, I am slightly off my rocker. I’m ok with it though.

On on!

I’ve put the vacation countdown on the whiteboard. Hubby thinks I’m a little nuts, but it’s kind of a reminder for me of how long I have to get into bikini shape. I saw a furry bikini that just made me smile…almost laugh, and considered buying it since I don’t go in the water, I only walk around the edge of the  pool. I did think that hubby might be slightly mortified walking around with me while I’m wearing it, but he wouldn’t say so. I’ll spare him and get something a little more normal. This time. Good morning, breakfast. Egg whites, spinach, and tomato, it’s good to see you guys again. Grapefruit will be joining the party soon. Skim milk isn’t invited back though. Salads are gonna make their return next week too. It’s a healthy party!

With that lunacy, I’m going to leave you to your Monday. Because my laptop batter is dying and I have to take that aforementioned shower. More fun tomorrow when I’ll probably be even more sore but hopefully I’ll have fun spin pole stories to tell. There’s a whole big world out there. Go get it!

Balance It Out

At this very moment, if I could have anything my heart desired, it would be a never expiring prescription for Flexeril. It’s a muscle relaxant. Why would I want this? Oh, you know, to relax my poor, poor shoulders. Perhaps you recall about three weeks ago when I pretty much ate sh!t on my board. Yeah, ouch. Well, today, I evened it out and fell on the other side. While I didn’t hit the bone on this one, I managed to smack my head off the ground yet again, and this time, along with my pins and needles down the arm, I also got the awesome feeling that I had just dipped my arm in an almost hot bucket of water. Hooray! Craziest part is that the newly hurt side doesn’t hurt, but the previously hurt side hurts more – it had been healing.

As always, it wasn’t all bad. I managed to get down the rest of the jumps for the rest of the day without falling and I actually caught a little air. Baby steps, people, baby steps. AND, most fun ever, I tried out the mini-slalom course today. I’ve been watching that on the Olympics and thought to myself that I should try it. It’s like carving but on uppers. And in deep grooves later in the day. It is super fun.  So now just riding down the hill isn’t enough. I must twist and turn and jump. Woot.

Speaking of twisting and turning, this shoulder “injury” is gonna present oh so much fun tomorrow when I’m trying to spin around by one arm.

This was a long post for a Sunday AND it had a song. Win.
