Making Progress

Another week has flown on by. As much as I dislike admitting it, time really does start to go faster the older you get. With nearly three quarters of 2013 gone (ok, more like 7/12), I can only wonder where the heck the year went. I do feel as though I’ve learned some things so far this year, though, and that there’s still more to take in before the year closes.

Something I never would have thought was possible seems to be happening. I’m staying fit simply by doing yoga three times a week. Or, at least, that’s all I’m doing in the gym. I laid off the cardio machines (and my hip thanks me), and I stay away from the weights. We’ll see if it continues to work out this way as I’m only basing this on about a month’s worth of yoga. But here’s hoping.

I’m also learning that it isn’t necessary for me to go balls to the wall 100% of the time and everything  doesn’t have to be all or nothing. So maybe it’s taken nearly 40 years, but I’m finally getting to a point of being ok with just doing what I can. Can’t expect others to accept me as I am if I can’t accept myself. I’m a work in progress.

Meditating has positive consequences. Maybe not the first time, maybe not even the second or third, but if you stick to it and really give it the attention it needs, it works.

Sidebar: As I write this, I am sitting in my back yard, enjoying the sounds of the wind in the trees and taking in all the green. Unfortunately, one of our back neighbors is also at home. He is in a band. He plays the guitar– which I can handle. He is also singing. I am fairly certain that he does not sing in the band as he is more than a little off key. If he is singing in the band, well, it’s not a great wonder that they’re still playing locally.

With the guidance of my yoga instructor, Lexi, I’ve been working on unblocking/clearing my heart chakra as I’ve mentioned. Yesterday, I tried a different method that she mentioned and not only did I feel an emotional weight lift, there was a physical aspect as well. Later in the day after my meditation, I started to feel slightly congested, or moreso as though I was at the end of congestion. It was really neat to me to have this happen – the physical unblocking – although at the time I did wonder if I was just getting sick. The body is a really wild tool that we possess.

In non-body related news, I’m very much looking forward to this weekend. We’re taking a staycation down in Denver tomorrow night, complete with dinner out (likely at Edge because we love that place), a hotel stay, and Pirates baseball on Sunday afternoon. I’ll be that annoying girl with the huge Jolly Roger raising it as the Buccos take out the Rockies, hopefully in a sweep. Let the games begin…baseball AND football. Black and yellow till I die!

Two Day Recap

It must be nice to be a meteorologist. They’re constantly wrong and yet they never seem to get called on it. Of course I understand that weather isn’t an exact science. That doesn’t change the fact that, when I go to bed expecting to wake up to a dusting of snow and I get up and there are a couple inches and it’s still coming down, I’m not a happy camper. Should be a fun drive in to work.

As suspected, the first day was all orientation.  Wow.  Long day. Parts of it were cool, like learning about the history of the city, but going over benefits and such, ugh. I had read all of that stuff a zillion times before I ever even got in the building. We did, however, have some good laughs at our table and the guys at the table were all pretty cool. I met a guy that has five Emmy’s. Oh yeah, and the coffee dude hit on me. I asked if they took credit cards. He said nope, only cash. Or jewelry. Or phone numbers. Ha! Nice try. Meh, I still got it. 🙂

Yesterday was a bit more eventful. I got sworn in (yep, seriously, with a judge and everything). I got my magic badge (with a picture that doesn’t suck!) to open up many doors in several buildings. Met a bunch of people, now I just have to attempt to remember their names. Got settled in my new space although I really need to personalize it. Started looking into a new program to use for work. Learned that I might be using a lot of SQL. Found a possible perk that I wasn’t expecting (but that’s for several months down the road yet). All in all, great day. AND I made it home in record time yesterday…or record out of the two days I’ve gone to town.

So far, no complaints. People are nice. Everyone is helpful. The commute doesn’t totally suck (thanks BV-Pittsburgh for numbing the pain well in advance). Haven’t been bored yet, probably won’t ever be. Scheduling is still flexible. Casual Friday, WHAT?!?! Yep, life is good.

A posting isn’t complete if I don’t mention something about pole. The Sweet Emotion choreography went surprisingly well. I think that I may be getting better at choreography on the fly, so maybe I’ll figure out how to freestyle soon. Weeeeee!

Off to brave the snow! Have a fantastic Thursday!

37.45 – MgCl

When it snows in the Burgh, there’s salt and ash.  Of course, it’s been a while since I’ve been there, so maybe there are new avenues now.  Stranger things have been known to happen.  Out here in Denver, they use a compound called magnesium chloride, mag chloride for short.  Last week, we had a mini snowstorm and as such, the plows were out in full force.  Much as it is in Pittsburgh, I’m sure, all the news talked about was the 3 stinking inches of snow that we got.  We got constant updates on how much snow had fallen, how much more might fall, and how CDOT (like PennDOT) was keeping up with keeping the roads clear.

As Lovey and I watched the news last week, the weatherman was on and, due to the repetitive nature of the news I was only half-listening, he informed us that the plows were out dropping mag chloride.  In my head, all of a sudden, the chubby white weatherman was in a Snoop Dogg video with some gold chains and the requisite ladies in bikinis telling me the weather.  He was spittin’ game like never before and he reached the pinnacle, I mean he reigned supreme, when he said that those damn trucks were out there droppin’ MAD CHLORIDE, man!

I should probably listen a little better.

I was complaining on my Facebook status that it was payday but all gone.  It is, but I had to put aside a little spending money for the next item for the “other”  living room.  Maybe another month and a half and it’ll be complete.  *evil, sly grin*

Well, I’ve got to go do some things.  I hope you all enjoy the remainder of your Saturday.  I know I will. 😀
