Mount up Monday v5.12.08

Welcome back to the reality known as Monday.  Bad for some, worse for others, but for me, I just take them as they come.

So, let's just get the bad news out of the way first.  Last MUM, I set three goals for myself.  Let's see how I did.

  1. Finish homework by Friday – She shoots, she SCORES!  I actually had it all done.  I plan to do the same this week.
  2. Stretch for an hour daily – That slapshot missed WAY wide.  Not only did I not stretch for an hour daily, I didn't stretch at all.  Bad Shyner.  That just means I'll be in super pain tomorrow after class tonight.
  3. Read 20 pages of PHP tutorial – I just got shutout.  Yeah, I didn't do any of the reading.  I am such a mess, but I will do better this week.

So, if I didn't do any of that, then what DID I do last week?  Let's see.  Weekdays are spent at work and then basically collapsing after work from the mental trauma (NOT!).  Really, I'm just lazy and when I get home I don't want to do much.  Saturday I spent basically the entire day fixing up the living room.  Let's just say that before, it was pretty yuck, and seeing as how it's the first thing you see when you walk in our front door, I got tired of wanting to jump off a bridge if I saw it one more time like that.  It was cluttered and full of junk and dark and, well, yuck.  I wanted to get some slipcovers for the couches but after a wild goose chase at Macys, then Target, then Bed, Bath and Beyond, I gave up on them.  I did, however, end up with a decent bookshelf (that Kiddo helped me put together) and a couple of nice plants.

I should have taken a before picture so you could see what was really done, but I didn't.  If my brother stops by, he'll let you know how much it's changed.

Yeah, that wall is pink.  I still have to paint, but let me tell you, it's a million times better than it was.  My Stephen King collection finally has a home, as do all of my computer books.  Which is awesome in and of itself because it cleared off space on the bookshelf in my office/the gym for some of my other books.  Both Lovey's aunt and our former roommate were awestruck by the transformation and I am quite happy with it.  That was an all day job.

Saturday night was date night and I even managed to stay awake after all day cleaning.  Lovey and I stepped out for a frozen cocktail since it was just under 8000 degrees.  We walked around but there were way too many people out for me so we called it a little early and went home to sit on the balcony.  Good times.

Sunday we met Lovey's mom, step-dad, sister and aunt for lunch in a fantabulous Mexican restaurant.  Super good stuff.  We returned to la casa de doce trienta with full bellies where I cleaned some more and then played some online poker.

The weekend would not have been complete, however, without some sports.  That's right.  Penguins 2, Flyers 0.  Pens in 5 is the way I'm calling it.  Let's go PENS!

Before I ramble on too much further, let me set this week's goals.

  • Finish the friggin homework before Friday
  • Read 20 pages of the PHP tutorial
  • Clean the office/gym
  • Create a schedule

With that, I'm out!  REGULATORS, Mount Up!

ROCO Friday – Mother’s Day edition

Good morning my pretties.  Good morning and ROCO with your morning wood.  I'm so vulgar.

First, let me wish all the VoxMoms a Happy Mother's Day!  We all know that Moms ROCO with the best of them.  We are always beautiful, always helpful, nurses, teachers, fixers, do-ers, helpers, pick-me-up-ers, pillows, lovers, fighters, bitches when we have to be, cookers, cleaners, phone books, GPS systems, self-sacrificing, bad ass mo-fos.  So, yes, ROCO to all you Moms out there!

I think I heard the congregation say, ROCO!

The summer season is nearly upon us, my people.  Summer, the time when folks (mainly older European men) head to the beach in their Speedos and take ROCO too seriously.  Nice picture I paint, non?  Summer is the time for you, me, everybody, to Rock Out with Everything Out.  Your toes in your flip-flops, your leggies out of your shorts, your belly-button out of  your top, EVERYTHING!  Get outside and enjoy the weather, love your life, live for the moment, and do what….?

ROCO!

Another week has passed us by.  Have you done your best to live up to the ROCO standards?  Should I make ROCO standards?  I might, but only if the congregation has input.  You see, I must attempt to work towards this degree, so I do not spend as much time here in the Church of Rocking Out of Danglers Outside your Undies as I would like.  But like all good head(s), I listen to what you like and I act on it.  So, if my people say we need standards, then standards we shall have.

ROCO!

Without further ado, I am going to provide you with a little ditty to start your weekend ROCO style. If you are of age, then go right ahead and tap that bottle.  Or buy a bottle for Mom to tap.  After all, she's put up with a lot of your crap.

<passes the collection plate for Moms>

Have a wonderful weekend all, and if I haven't said it enough, make sure you give props to the lady that gave you life.  I'll be at the back of the joint shakin hands and kissin babies on the way out.

ROCO!

May 9, 1910

Today would have been my grandmother's 98th birthday.  She passed back in 97.  Partially due to old age, partially kidney failure since she only had one because she had given the other to a family member.

I loved that woman with all my heart.  When I was little, I would go to church with her every Sunday and she would let me start the car.  I would spend practically all of my time at her house because she and my grandfather lived right next door to us.  My mom said that one day, when I was about 4 or 5, I packed up some stuff in a grocery bag and told my parents I was leaving and off I went to my grandparents' house.  Gram kept Mom calm when I dug up a Black Beauty out of the couch and ate it.  Gram broke it to my parents that I could read and I wasn't just looking at the pictures in the newspaper. (They really thought I was just looking at the pictures and didn't believe my Gram until she made me come over and read for them.)  Gram let me watch Welcome Back, Kotter on the big TV after school.

Let me tell you that the woman could COOK!  I never learned why she was nicknamed Cook, but she certainly lived up to it.  She made the best mac and cheese and peach junk EVER!  Those exact recipes went to her grave with her.  No matter how much time I spent in her kitchen and how many times I asked what went in, I never got an answer. :-)  It was always a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  The mac and cheese I can sorta replicate but I wouldn't even know where to start on the peach junk.

She had a set of dishes that she wanted me to have.  She told me so.  But when she passed, there was too much fighting, too much drama and I didn't get them.  I really wish I had them.

So, on this day, Gram's day, I like to think about the good things.  The Nilla wafers she always had for me.  Watching her cook.  Being able to go to her house any time.  Walking into her kitchen one day to find her drinking beer and burping with her church buddies.  Even her funeral isn't so bad to think about because it was a packed house full of people who loved her.

Today, I know you are at peace, Gram, looking down on me and my brother and Kiddo, with Pops and Dad and Aunt Barbara and Uncle Kenny and so many others at your side, and I hope that you are smiling.  I hope that you know that we're doing our best.  I hope that one day we will see each other again and I can finally get those recipes.  Most of all, I hope you know that I loved you with all my heart.

Happy birthday.

Awww, sweet

My ex-boyfriend's brother found me on Facebook and sent me a note.  The subject was Engaged?!?!?  The body went a little like this: I guess there is no chance you will ever be my sister-in-law. 🙁

What a wonderful guy!  I think I may have gotten along with him better than his brother, lol.  And before you ask, we had too much in common to ever date.  We both like boys. 😛
