All the nothing and nothing more

I've had several nightmare-free nights of sleep and it's been wonderful.  There really is nothing like a new mattress.  I'm going to proceed with my suspicions and blame the nightmares on something I ate, namely roasted chicken from Winn Dixie.  We ate it on Sunday night and I had nightmares.  We ate leftovers on Monday night and again I had nightmares.  Tuesday we had pork chops and a perfectly sound sleep.  No more Winn Dixie chicken for me.

I performed my civic duty on Tuesday.  My voting center is an assisted-living facility or at least I think that's what that building is.  The area in which I live is primarily Republican.  The vast majority of the older crowd is definitely Republican.  I'm okay with that even though they're holding up progress.  What I'm not okay with is the lady working the polls not being okay with my political affiliation.  She looked me up and had me sign and then looked again, saw that I'm a registered Democrat and said (in a super bitchy way) "Oh, you're a Democrat" like being a Democrat is equal to being a serial killer.  No, I didn't report her and I didn't punch her in the face.  Why fight with the old?  I don't want to be the cause of her heart attack.

I got a nice new shiny screen for my laptop as the other one decided to go BLAH.  Be accident or on purpose, I paid for a regular screen and got a glossy.  Hooray for semi-freebies.  It is taking me a while to adjust to the shiny screen though.

Last, I would appreciate it if you're awake tomorrow at about 9:30am EST, send some good vibes my way.

Lurve my Voxers.  Are you listo?  HEP!

Today's library offerings

I have always been a book lover.  I knew there was a library here on the beach, but man, it's a LIBRARY!  Seeing as how it's almost the first of the month (go get your welfare…so cash your checks and come on) and February holds big plans for the 1230, I think I should get my mind right as well as my body.  Here's what I got:

After a long day at work and 2 hours of stories about what happened in middle school today, I think that this little gem will come in handy.  Or at least I hope it does something to calm my mind and possibly end the nightmares.

Zen

There's a path that I want to follow and meditation is a part of it.  There are other aspects as well that I may divulge at a later date.

Meditation is not just the mind, it's the whole body so sayeth the book.  I really have to do the whole out with the bad in with the good thing. Soon.

And finally, this is the month's last step.  I just decided that four books a month is good.  I'll read them and possibly post little reviews of them.  I'm currently in the train of thought that if I only eat a little, I don't have to exercise.  Healthy?  Probably not.  So I'm going to try pilates in the morning instead of sitting in front of the computer to check websites that are blocked at work.  Here's to a more fit me.

And here's to you Mrs. Robinson.

Back from the depths

No, I didn't actually go anywhere, I just realized that I haven't been blogging lately.  So here I am to fill your day with random drivel.  I think it'll be bullet points or I'll get too long-winded.

  • OFFENDED! - A temp at work asked her supervisor if we would be dismissed from work early on the Friday before MLK day (as we are usually dismissed early before holidays).  Temp's supervisor said (paraphrase) "No, that's not an important holiday."  Hmmm.  Ballsy thing to say.  Even ballsier thing to say when you're speaking to someone of color.  Temp went to HR to complain.  Complaint duly noted.  Temp given walking papers, at the end of the day of course, within 5 business days of complaining.  Obviously planned as temp's replacement arrived the following morning.  Anyone else see a problem with this?
  • ENROLLED! – Not only am I now enrolled in a degree program, Lovey is too.  We'll have Associate's degrees for his birthday next year and Bachelor's degrees for my birthday the following year I do believe.  He's a fixer and I'm an investigator.
  • COMFORTED! – At least at first.  We got a new mattress and it's a whole hell of a lot better than our old mattress.  First night of sleep on it was wonderful (but assisted by a prescription).  Second night of sleep, not so good.  I had very random scary and depressing dreams, in one, there were kids that I knew the background on for whatever reason although I didn't know them.  White girl, black boy, struggling to keep it together.  There was water, they were both in it.  She was trying to save him (cuz we all know black folks can't swim) but he realized that he was dragging her down and let go.  Strangest part is that I saw all of this in an M. Night Ramalamadingdong, Lady In the Water style from underneath and in the water.  Third night, no better.  First my boss busted me looking at Careerbuilder.com at work which somehow switched to a friend died (said friend happened to have been at the house that night too).  Overall disturbing.
  • DISGUSTED! – With Miami.  Still.

That's it for now.  Check back later for more bitching and moaning.  Lurve you Voxers.
