Just stuff

I have a standing rule at home for Kiddo: If neither Lovey or I are there, no one is allowed in the house.  Normal rule that I'm sure you may have had growing up too.  Then again, maybe not since times have changed.

This past Friday, one of Kiddo's friends stopped by after school, let's call her E.  No big deal, they were sitting out front just chatting.  Later, Kiddo told me that E had said that the house smelled amazing: like cookies and candy and Christmas. (I hadn't taken the tree down at that time.)  I have a thing about the house smelling nice, so I was happy with that comment.  Apparently, E also asked Kiddo if she could come live with us.  I laughed that one off at first.  BUT.  Later, Kiddo told me E's entire storoy.

<break out your hankies>

Her dad is just MIA.  Kiddo asked where he was, but apparently, he's a non-entity, similar to Kiddo's own sperm donor.  E said when Kiddo asked, "I ate him."  Funny, but sad.  On top of that, if I can totally take their word for it, E is currently living with her brother and step-sister who are in their early 20s because E's mom ditched her and left the state.

Does Kiddo get on my nerves every once in a while?  Sure, what 15 year old doesn't?  But to ditch your child and move across the country and leave her so unceremoniously in the care of your other child who isn't that much older? OMG, I think my heart just broke.

I haven't been able to get this out of my mind.  Lovey asked if I wanted to adopt another 15 year old.  No, I don't.  I honestly don't even know how E is managing to escape Children and Family Services, but I am happy that she is at least still going to school.  I feel terrible about this and I don't know what to do.

I think that the least I can do is allow E to come over on Saturdays and probably Sundays to hang out with Kiddo.  Not that we're "normal", but at least for a couple days a week we can pretend to be so E can have somewhere where her life can seem normal.  Ugh, the sadness!

And on a completely different note…….

Last night on my way to yoga, it was wonderfully cool and crisp outside.  And maybe you'll understand this if you've lived far enough from a big city.  The air tasted good.  Like fall and leaves and, well, winter too I guess.

And one more completely different note……..

It takes a lot bring the sports world to a standstill, but there was no ignoring the magnitude of the moment. Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin pushed back his first pre-Super Bowl news conference one hour so it wouldn't conflict with the inauguration.

"What we're doing here today pales with what's going on in our nation's capital," Tomlin said.

Steelers principal owner Dan Rooney and his son Jim hand-delivered a game ball from the team's AFC Championship win to Obama on Monday, at a dinner Obama hosted for Arizona Sen. John McCain, the man he defeated for the presidency. Dan Rooney campaigned for Obama in Pennsylvania and surrounding states.

"He's a [Chicago] Bears fan first, he admits that," Dan Rooney said Tuesday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "But he's a Steelers' fan. He's said it, and all his staff, they're rooting for us [in the Super Bowl]."

Wednesdays are for humping

Why not?  Virginia is for lovers.  Can you imagine the ruckus on Wednesdays in Virginia?

I haven't much to say about this week.  I started my gym regimen on Monday and that was good.  An abs and ass class that has left me sore two days later.  Bonus that there was only one other person in the class other than the instructor.  Tuesday evening was yoga.  It's an intro class that goes into the names of poses, some background, and some actual poses.  It's kind of slow moving, but it's okay since I'm still learning some stuff.

As if that weren't enough, this morning I had another yoga class (different place) where I was the only student.  Completely awesome as I got personalized instruction on getting my poses just right.  I think we did some more advanced poses.  And I really need to work on my balance.  Even though the instructor was "assisting" me at points, I still almost knocked her over when I was doing Utthita Hasta Padangustasana.  I'm no yoga expert, but I would imagine that this isn't something that you ask someone to do who has been to yoga a few times.  At any rate, it was an excellent class and the same teacher runs the Friday Pilates class so I'm happy about that.

Tomorrow morning I have my first of two personal training sessions.  I need a set circuit routine for the days I hit the gym and am not taking a class.  I'm making it easy for the guy.

I'll be ending the week with the aforementioned Pilates class and I may take off Saturday and Sunday, but that remains to be seen.

SIGH.  Could someone please tell me how I could justify shelling out more cash to obtain certification in personal training?  I'm already in a Bachelor's program and it isn't as though I don't plan on finishing it, I just enjoy the exercise and making people sweat a little more than I do the computer.  People are always wanting to get in shape, right?  I guess that goes on the back burner for now.

I've said a lot for someone with nothing to say.  I hope that this week either starts to or continues to treat you all right.  have a good one!

Mid-week ramblings

Hi!

It's Wednesday. Two down, two and change to go until the long weekend.  Hooray!  MommaShyner is coming for a visit.  That means we get to be silly and go to bingo and basically drive Lovey crazy.  Poor guy.

I don't know where MommaShyner ever found this song, but we used to laugh about it ALL THE TIME.  We can bitch him out right along with her.  Good times.

<did I mention that I will just jump from topic to topic?>

DMX, DMX, DMX….what the hell is wrong with you man?!?!  Somehow you just manage to keep getting in more trouble.  I've lost count, but I think it's a good 5 times you've been arrested in Miami in the last couple of months.  How stupid are you to get busted by an undercover buying 15 bucks worth of weed and 20 bucks worth of coke?  I'm not saying go out and do drugs, but don't you at least have someone that could pick that up for you?  And all the money you have, or used to have, that's all you can afford?  The economy really IS tight, huh?

Well, enjoy your time in jail.  It doesn't help your case any when upon standing before the judge, who tells you that you're not going to be able to bond out, you storm off and say "I ain't staying in fucking jail."  Guess what?  YES YOU ARE!  They're not letting you out and they're going to send you right back to Arizona where you're in trouble for animal cruelty.

<on a haha note, the reporter said that you'll be in jail until they EXTRICATE you back to Arizona.  I love Miami.>

I love garlic.  I love sea salt.  I put garlic on just about everything.

Vampires will never get me.

When I saw this product in the store, it couldn't get in my cart fast enough.  I LOVE IT!! I have it on my eggies in the morning and in my soup for dinner.  The deliciousness has no boundaries.

<fortunately, I don't sweat garlic>

This morning was my first official day on the Wii Fit.  I hooked it up last night and did a quick run-through.  Last night my Wii age was 42, yikes!  This morning I was doing a little better and I was only 37.

I was way too lazy (and sleepy) to take pictures of the screen this morning.  They offer up four sections to play in: aerobics, strength training, balance games, and yoga.

Aerobics this morning was a bit of step, which wasn't a problem, and pseudo-jogging where I almost ran over my trainer.

Strength training had me doing some push-ups and planks on the left and right along with some crazy sit-up type things and something else that has slipped my mind.

Balance games were pretty funny.  I love walking the tightrope.  You have to jump over this thing that's trying to eat your legs, but at no time are you supposed to actually JUMP on the balance board.  So, of course, first thing I do?  JUMP!  I had to start over.  There's also a slalom ski course and a ski jump that are pretty fun.  I jumped 50 meters on the first time (which is terrible).  I tried again and got the hang of it and nearly tripled my distance!  Go Mii!

I saved the yoga for last since I wanted to be a little warmed up before trying it.  Got through breathing, warrior, and tree poses this morning.  Good stuff.

All this happened in approximately 35 minutes.  Was it a workout?  Meh, the jury is still out on that one.  I didn't break a sweat.  Maybe as I unlock more things to do, it will get more challenging.  But it's cute and it's fun and it tracks my weight and BMI, so it serves its purpose.  I'll keep you up to date on this since I know you are hanging on my every word.

Well, in the words of my great-uncle, "Allez cuisine!".  And have a great hump day!
